St. Cloud, MN Area- Minnesota D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), Inc. has partnered with St. Cloud Hospital's Recovery Plus to expand prevention programming in the St. Cloud area. "Bringing prevention and treatment together to share resources just makes sense," states Minnesota D.A.R.E.'s Executive Director Kathi Ackerman.

In September, St. Cloud Hospital-Recovery Plus offered to provide office space to Minnesota D.A.R.E. In return, Minnesota D.A.R.E. is able to provide additional prevention programming in the St. Cloud area.

On Wednesday- April 21, 2010, former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Jim Gilbert will be speaking at Foley High School as part of their Chemical Awareness Week. Former Justice Gilbert has been a long time supporter of prevention programming and the Minnesota D.A.R.E. program. He will speak to the students on the topic of "Consequences."

In addition, Minnesota D.A.R.E. provided Foley schools and Kimball schools last Sunday, with 50 free tickets for their Target Market students to attend the D.A.R.E./Twins game in Minneapolis. Over 1300 D.A.R.E. students attended this annual event. On Monday, Minnesota D.A.R.E. brought in singer and song writer Goldy Locks to speak to the students at Foley and Kimball schools. Goldy Locks spoke in several Minnesota schools on the topic "Today I Won't Be Afraid."

On Thursday, Minnesota D.A.R.E. purchased 100 tickets to a Minnesota Lynx game to be distributed to students as a part of their special week. Minnesota D.A.R.E. works with the Minnesota Lynx to support healthy, female role models.

Minnesota D.A.R.E. is also a partner with the Minnesota National Guard Counterdrug Unit. They will be working with the Benton County Sheriff's Office to provide special prevention programming through their helicopter fly-in program this Thursday and next Tuesday. Their special Black Hawk will be stopping in schools in Sauk Rapids and Foley. Specially trained pilots will provide a presentation to supplement their current D.A.R.E. program.

The D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program utilizes specially-trained, uniformed law enforcement officers to provide programming to students in their classroom.
