Girls state golf results

On the girl's end of the state equation, the Lanesboro gals can take solace in the fact that sub-sectional and sectional foe/vanquisher Lewiston-Altura was a worthy conqueror. The Cardinals convincingly, as in, by 46 strokes, prevailed as state Class A golf champions. They had four of the top 9 finishers (and five of the top 20). Burro junior Paige Hungerholt, in her third consecutive state competition, found herself in that group (the top 20). She couldn't improve upon her 10th place sophomore finish, but she didn't fall too far. With a two-day (36-hole) total of 177, Paige tied for 13th place (out of 88 participants). She moved up the leaderboard nicely after posting a Day 1 91 (tied for 19th place). The only other Class A individual county qualifier, Jessie Tammel (Jr) from Fillmore Central, was consistent. She opened with a 49 and then put together three straight 52's. Her 205 put her in the middle of the pack (tied for 58th place). Kelsey Ross from Osakis was the individual Class A state champion with a 160. The meet took place at Pebble Creek in Becker Minnesota. On the Class AA side, only Kingsland senior Andrea Clement trekked to The Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan Minnesota (par 72). Andrea posted an 18-hole Day 1 total of 90 (tied for 34th place). On Day 2, she posted an 89 (for a total of 179). Even though her scored improved from Day 1 to 2, she slid down the leaderboard into a tie for 39th place (out of 88 competitors). Anna Laorr from Breck won the Class AA individual state championship with a 147. Red Wing prevailed as Class AA team champs.

For the Lanesboro boy's golf team, it was a give-and-take kind of season. They did so with non-conference rival Fillmore Central, finishing behind the Falcons twice early in the season, but besting them three times later in the season (handing them .....
