Maybe Kingsland should play all their boys and girls games at the middle school in Wykoff, on the same night, Saturdays. Basketballs shot by the home squads, particularly those from distance, seemed to find their way in the hoop. The boys spotted Chatfield an 8-2 start, but then went on a 24-5 run to take command (26-13). From there, the closest Chatfield would get was 7 (early in the second half). Kingsland held a lead as big as 20 (midway through the second). After a long final four minutes, they eventually won 71-61. Joey Strike's aim was true. He single-handily carried the Knights 50% from deep shooting percentage by making 6 of 7 for a game high 18 points. However, five of his teammates scored 8 or more. For Chatfield, Josh Bernard led the way with 15 off the bench. Erik Hilgren added 12.
The girls then took to the court and picked up from deep, where Strike left off. Their first six made baskets were from range (on only seven attempts). The Knights were just bitter for the Gopher's tastes, tart even, as in Lindsay and Mandi Tart who combined for five of those makes. But even with that hot shooting start (7 of 9 from range in the first half), the Gophers only trailed by 5 at half. In the second, the Tart's hit three more trifectas early on, catapulting the Knights to a 9-point lead. Meanwhile, Chatfield struggled to climb back into it. Down the stretch, the Knights' Molly Greiner came to life. After a 3-point first half, she scored 15 of her team's last 18 points (19 total in the half, 22 for the game), to seal the 65-60-victory. Lindsay Tart had 17 (5 of 7 triples) and Mandi Tart 10 (3 of 3 triples). The team made a whopping 11 of 17 threes (65%), or more than three times their 3-point shooting % coming in. The Gophers were well balanced. Karen Sass (15), Erika LaPlante (13), Kenna Moechnig (11), and Sarah Costello (10) all found double-digits.
