Treacherous Two-Step

Lanesboro volleyball endured some unenviable scheduling, a two-night set of matches with ranked powers FC (#8) and M-C (#6). The Falcons were up first. Fresh off a disappointing W-K tourney, FC went through Lanesboro 25-11, 25-21, and 25-11. Things weren’t nearly as dominating as in the past two seasons, where the Burros only got to double digits twice in six games. Set two was actually tied at 17 and the Burros were as close as one (21-20) before FC grabbed victory. The Falcons got good efforts from veteran players Morgan Malley (24 assists, 7 digs, 3 aces), Leah Scheevel (11 kills), and Sammi Bakke (7 kills). Lanesboro was led by Olivia Haug (5 kills), Cassidy Ruud (4 kills, 8 digs), Lexi Melander (9 assists), and Olivia Rogers (9 digs).

The Burros then took a trip to Mabel. The Cougars were impressive. It is easy to win when you overpower your opponent early. The combined M-C runs to start the three games was 21-1 (10-1, 7-0, and 4-0)! After ten total points each game, M-C led 9-1, 9-1, and 7-3! Game one saw the Cougars get a trio of emphatic Sara Vettleson-Trutza kills, a pair of Hannah Nolte kills, a pair of Courtney Graves kills, and three Coranda Vickerman aces in amassing their first ten points. All told, M-C procured 19 points via kill in the set. Vettleson-Trutza had the rare eight kill game, Vickerman the rare 16 assist game! The Cougars cruised to a 3-0 win (25-11, 25-9, 25-18). The name that cascades off the tongue, Vettleson-Trutza, led M-C with a season-high 17 kills. Vickerman tallied 37 assists, 11 digs, and four aces. Graves also had a season-high in kills with 13. Savannah Slafter chipped in six kills. Lexi Thorson was 18-19 serving with 9 digs. Lanesboro was led by Rachel Kimball (7 kills), Melander (17 assists, 10-10 serving), and Ruud (4 kills, 9 digs).

TRC Undefeated

Just about midway through the volleyball season, Fillmore Central and Chatfield sit atop the TRC standings. Each is undefeated in conference play with FC holding a ½ game lead. The Falcons moved to 6-0 with wins over L-A (25-17, 25-22, 25-20) and P-E-M (25-21, 25-11, 25-17). Against the Cards, Morgan Malley (6 kills, 19 assists, 16 digs), Leah Scheevel (10 kills), Paige Bennett (7 kills), and Tayah Barnes (13 digs, 16-16 serving) led the way. Against the ‘Dogs, it was Malley (18 assists, 15-16 serving, 4 aces), Scheevel (7 kills), Bennett (8 kills), Barnes (4 kills, 12 digs, 14-14 servin .....
