A place for family and friends

I have written about the Old Barn Resort before, but it is definitely worth revisiting for many reasons.

This is one of those places that melds well with its natural surroundings.

Whether golfing within the valley along the Root River and the Root River State Trail, fishing and camping in the tree-filled campground, or simply grabbing a bite to eat at the restaurant, the Old Barn Resort is a place where my family continues to make memories.

Shirley, the owner, and her staff prepare excellent food and make this stop a fun place to tell people about.

On the evening of October 9, 2012, I asked my wife if we could just take the easy route for dinner and stop by the Old Barn Resort. That sure beats having to cook for yourself, and then somebody else does the dishes!

So, she agreed.

What’s always interesting to me when we go out to eat is that I can always recall what I had for dinner, and I can never remember what anyone else ordered. However, after I am done with my meal, I look around the table and wait for others to tap-out from dining fatigue. Whatever anyone else in the family can’t finish, I’m there to finish the job.

I guess it’s always been that way since I was a little kid.

I fear the day it catches up with me.

I guess this means I will have to just train harder for the Fillmore County Turkey Day Run.

Well, in case you were wondering, I had the Jalapeno Bacon Cheddar Burger.

I always love spicy food, so this stood out on the menu like a pot of gold.

I absolutely enjoyed my burger. And, they seriously have dynamite fries. Delicious! As I’ve said before, they always have great food at the Old Barn Resort.

We’ve been there for the Mother’s Day Brunch and the Easter Brunch, and they have something to brag about.

I can’t remember all of the food I consumed, but I do remember the delicious ribs -- finger lickin’ good!

To me, we are very fortunate to have the best family-owned restaurants in the region right here in our backyard.

I prefer our local restaurants over any cookie-cutter chain restaurants in the big city.

Yes, the Old Barn Resort dining experience comes with two finger lickin’ thumbs up!

You can find the Old Barn Resort on Hwy. 17 between Preston and Lanesboro. They also have a w .....

As I walked into the Village Square of Fountain, I could feel the vibe of happiness. Happy people eating some good – no GREAT food! There was a full crowd with nearly every table consumed by food and conversation. I was lucky enough to nab a table .....

Do you remember as a kid the long list of foods you didn't like or were unwilling to try? What about the things you didn't like but couldn't live without now as an adult? The biggest two on my list: mustard and barbecue. They're two of my favorite f .....

Life is crazy. Time flies by and before you know it, it's been 2 months since you talked to one of your best friends who, when you were in college, you didn't go one single day without talking to. I find this happening way to often in my life. At on .....

When I decided to take on the Highland Store as my next Real Bites column, there was one problem I discovered. Where in bluff's country is it? Having not acquainted myself very well yet with the curving, nestled in small towns of the area I had no i .....
