Virginia M. Baker

Virginia M. Baker, 70, of rural Wykoff, a farm homemaker and former Chatfield telephone operator, died October 31, 2002 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield following a long illness.

Virginia M. Fenske was born Oct. 13, 1932, in Rochester, lived in Rochester as a child and later moved with her family to rural Chatfield. She graduated from Chatfield High School in 1950 and continued to lived in Chatfield until her marriage to William C. Baker on March 3, 1951, in Chatfield. They lived in rural Wykoff all their married life. Mrs. Baker was a certified master gardener through the University of Minnesota, a member of the Decorah, Iowa, and Rochester chapters of the Rug Hooking Guild, and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chatfield, where she taught Sunday school for 35 years, sang in the choir and was active in ladies aide. She was a charter member of the Wykoff Garden Club and Downtown Farmers Market in Rochester.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Carolyn (Dennis) Meyer of rural Wykoff, Evelyn Perry of Rochester and Barbara (Kevin) Eickhoff of rural Fountain; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a grandson, a brother and a sister.

The funeral was held Nov. 2, 2002 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chatfield, with the Rev. Preston Paul officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield was in charge of arrangements.
