Eunice Winter

Eunice Winter, 77, formerly of Wykoff, died February 14, 2003 at Spring Valley Care Center, where she had lived since 2000.

Eunice Nagel was born Sept. 8, 1925, in Fillmore County, the daughter of Ira and Marie (Zwart) Nagel. She attended Blooming Valley School in rural Fillmore County through the eighth grade. She then moved to Rochester and was a nurses' aide at Colonial Hospital for many years. She married Edwin Haney, and they were later divorced. On Sept. 7, 1957, she married Charley Winter in Rochester, and they lived on his home farm in rural Wykoff. Mr. Winter died in October 1983. She lived in Wykoff from 1986 until moving to Hillside Apartments in Spring Valley in 1999. She was a longtime member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and its ladies aid, a member of Rainbow Garden Club and Progressive Club of Wykoff, and was active in 4-H and was a Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed music and flowers.

Survivors include four daughters, Sandra (Bruce) Johnson of Rochester, Cheryl Haney of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Connie Smith and Penny (Kennie) Williams, both of Denver; three sons, Brian Haney of Rochester, Richard (Karen) Winter of Austin and Steve (Lori) Winter of Wykoff; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Kratz of Florida; and four brothers, Newton Nagel of Rochester, Russell Nagel of Harmony, Gordon Nagel of Granger and George Nagel of Stewartville.

The funeral was held Feb. 18, 2003 in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wykoff, with the Rev. Peter J. Sestak officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Wykoff was in charge of arrangements.
