John Jacob Wilken

John Jacob Wilken passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas on April 19, 2003 at the age of 80 years.

John was born July 13, 1922 at Lime Spring, Iowa, the son of Chris and Rose (Bronner) Wilken. He attended the Greenleafton School and graduated from the Dunwoody Institute. John entered the Army during WWII and served in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg and Ft. Benning. He also served during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Rosemary McClellan on May 27, 1949 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, IA. He and Rosemary lived in Cresco and John was a partner in Cresco Masonry with Warren Lewis for 30 years. John served a period as a Cresco City Councilman during his years in business. He retired in 1984. They continued to live in Cresco until 1990 when they moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary of Bella Vista; four sons, Douglas (Kathy) of Newton, Iowa, Bruce (Bonnie) and Scott (Alma) both of Cresco, and Jeff of Bella Vista, Arkansas; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Lillian Griswold of Boulder, Colorado and Geneva (Russell) Arneson of Harmony, Minn.

Funeral services were held April 25, 2003 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wykoff, Minn. with interment in the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Cemetery, Granger, Minn. Flag presentation was conducted by the Cresco VFW and the American Legion Posts.
