Clara M. Vickerman

Clara M. Vickerman, 102, of Mabel, died February 8, 2003 at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.

Clara M. Haugen was born April 1, 1900, in Amherst Township, Fillmore County, to Olaf and Josephine Haugen. She attended country schools. As a child she attended South Fork Church and Ellestad Lutheran Church. On April 10, 1918, she married John Vickerman in Preston. They lived in the Big Woods area until 1948, when they moved to Newburg. Her husband died Jan. 23, 1974. She later moved to Mabel and had lived at Green Lea Manor since 1987. She had been a caretaker for the Newburg Cemetery and the church. Mrs. Vickerman was a member of the Newburg United Methodist Church, its ladies aid and the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a Gold Star Mother. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, baking and gardening.

Survivors include seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, a daughter, four sisters and two brothers.

The funeral was held Feb. 11, 2003 at the Newburg United Methodist Church in rural Mabel, with the Rev. Phyllis Wilcox officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel was in charge of arrangements.
