LaVerne Maxwell ‘Web’ Webster

LaVerne Maxwell ‘Web’ Webster, 93, of Spring Valley, a longtime Ruan employee, died March 14, 2003 at Spring Valley Care Center, where he had lived since February 2001.

Born Sept. 18, 1909, in Canton, he attended Canton schools and later Spring Valley schools after moving there in 1925. On Oct. 4, 1928, he married Vermona “Monnie” Alberts at Spring Valley Congregational Church. He played semi-pro football with the Spring Valley Oilers and was a member of the Grand Meadow town basketball team. From 1943 to 1947 he worked for Oliver Tractor in Charles City, and for 30 years, beginning in 1948, was a dispatcher for Ruan in Spring Valley. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and following local high school sports and the Minnesota Gophers.

Survivors include three sons, Dick (Gerrie) Webster and Kevin (Ann) Thon, both of Spring Valley, and Jerry Webster of Indian Wells, Calif.; a daughter, Terry (Lloyd) Leibfried of Spring Valley; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mavis Skarr of California. His wife preceded him in death.

A memorial service was March 18, 2003 at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley, with the Rev. William Rowen officiating. Burial was in Spring Valley Cemetery. Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
