Gordon E. Gill, 87, of Spring Valley, died Aug. 18, 2004 at Spring Valley Care Center, where he had lived since August 2002.

Born Nov. 29, 1916, on the family farm south of Spring Valley to William and Lois (Rathbun) Gill. He attended a rural school and Spring Valley High School, and then worked on area farms until his marriage. On March 11, 1939, he married Elsie Hafner in Spring Valley, and they farmed southeast of Spring Valley. She died June 16, 1971. He married Dolores Brandt Hyland on March 3, 1973, in Spring Valley. They lived on his farm until moving into Spring Valley in 1978. Mr. Gill was a member of Our Saviorís Lutheran Church, served on the church council and church cemetery board, and was a member of the Spring Valley and Fillmore County Historical Societies and Friends of Forestville. He served on rural school boards and was active in the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Leslie (Deanne) of Rochester and Michael (Annette) of La Crosse, Wis.; two daughters, Sharon (Richard) Jahn of Spring Valley and Kathleen (Dwayne) Buchholz of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; two stepsons, Arnold Hyland of Redding, Calif., and Duane (Annette) Hyland of Spring Valley; 11 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald of Pine Island. A brother and a stepgranddaughter preceded him in death.

The funeral for Gordon E. Gill was Aug. 22 at Our Saviorís Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, with the Rev. Dennis Timmerman and Laura Fladten officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
