Ewald A. Meisner

Ewald A. Meisner, 87, a retired Wykoff-area dairy farmer, died August 25, 2003 at Stewartville Care Center.

He was born March 14, 1916, on his parentsí farm west of Wykoff, son of William and Minnie (Gehrking) Meisner. He lived there most of his life until retirement, except for a few years spent on his stepfatherís farm near Bangor, Wisc. On March 31, 1937, he married Hulda Horstman in West Salem, Wis. They farmed on the Wykoff homestead for 42 years and moved to Wykoff following retirement in 1979. They had lived in Stewartville since February 2002. Mr. Meisner was one of the first commercial dairy farmers in Fillmore County, was a founder of the Wykoff Co-op and was recognized for his efforts in agriculture/soil conservation with strip-cropping. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wykoff, where he served on the council and as an usher and sang in the Menís Quartet. He was a member of the Wykoff Lions Club and was active in the Farmers Union.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Thelma (Myron) Nash and Diane Campeau, both of Coon Rapids, Minn., Joyce (Joel) Magnuson of Austin, Colo., and Lois (Bob) Neis of Waukesha, Wisc.; a son, Dennis (Jane) of Wykoff; 11 grandchildren; a foster grandson; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold (Ruthie) of Montevideo, Minn.; and two stepbrothers, Edwin (Vernetta) Niedfeldt and Emil Niedfeldt, both of Bangor. He was preceded in death by a son, two infant grandchildren, an infant great-granddaughter, three sisters, two brothers, a stepbrother and three stepsisters.

The funeral was August 28, 2003 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wykoff, with the Rev. Don Flaten officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
