Nelson - Albert Norman

Albert Norman Nelson, 77, of Spring Valley, died Feb. 8, 2005 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Norman Nelson was born January 2, 1928 in Fonda, Iowa to Arvid and Sarah (Espedal) Nelson. He graduated from Fonda High School and enlisted in the US Navy in 1945. He served on the USS Sperry submarine and after the service attended Iowa State University. He farmed with his father in the Fonda area before purchasing a farm southwest of Spring Valley where he raised Hampshire hogs for 28 years. In Sept. 1969 he married Irene Zebaugh at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Mr. Nelson was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spring Valley and served on the church council. He was a national Hampshire Assoc. chairman and a member of the Fillmore County Pork Producers. He was also a member of the Riflemans Assoc., a member of Small Business NFIB and a member of the Ostrander American Legion.

Survivors include: his wife; three daughters, Judy (Richard) Guenther of Brandon, Wis., Betsy (Mike) Harasyn of Crystal, Minn., and Renee (Kevin) Meyer of Champlin, Minn.; two sons, Eugene Zebaugh of Currie, Minn., and Wes (Chris) Nelson of Coon Rapids, Minn.; and six granddaughters.

The funeral for Albert Norman Nelson was Feb. 12 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Rev. Dennis Timmeran officiating. Burial with military rites was in the church cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
