Curtis Ordell Nelson 55, of Canton, went to his Eternal Home in Heaven on Wed. Nov. 26, 2003. In the arms of his loving wife of 31 years, surrounded by his children, a dear sister-in-law and a nephew. He died peacefully at home after battling cancer for the past 15 months.

Curt was physically born June 16, 1948 in Preston to Odell and Mildred (Sorenson) Nelson of Canton. He was spiritually re-born in June of 2003, when he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and believed God’s promise of forgiveness of sins and a home in Heaven when he leaves this earth.

He attended Lenora and Canton Schools and was among the last class to graduate from the Canton High School in 1966, before Mabel and Canton consolidated.

He worked a the Preston Creamery before he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968. He served in Viet Nam as a truck driver. After completing two years with the U.S. Army, he drove truck for the Fred Carlson Co. of Decorah, Ia.

In June of 1972, he joined forces with his brother, Jerry, working for Nelson Electric of Mabel, becoming a very loyal and dedicated Electrician for the past 31 years. During his final months, his illness may have slowed him down, yet his God-given determination and positive attitude kept him going. He continued to work until October 2003, when he became physically unable. He had proudly worked beside his son, Brian, for the past 5 years, teaching him the skills and forming a very special bond of on-the-job memories.

On January 20, 1973, he married Susan Mae Gulbranson in Caledonia. They made their home in Canton and raised three children.

Deer hunting, watching the Vikings, the Twins, old western movies, and touring the countryside and camping were among his favorite past-times...until he became ‘Grandpa’; which was on of the loves of his life. His four grandchildren, which he so proudly and lovingly spent precious time with on a daily basis. He gave each of them his individual attention and left them a legacy of precious memories. 7 year old Jordan says “I can write a book about Grandpa and all the things we did together” and 3 year old Nathan (Grandpa’s shadow) says, “When I get big like Grampa, I can go up to heaven with him and we can have fun”! 10 month old Brady and 5 month old Brianna are left with precious pictures of Grandpa during his last days of physical weakness using every ounce of stren .....
