Roger Milton Jahns, 72, of Lime Springs, a retired Postal Service employee, died March 18, 2003 at his home.
He was born July 26, 1930, in Spring Valley to Milton and Amanda Jahns and attended Spring Valley schools. At age 17, he enlisted in the Army, served in Japan during the Korean War and returned to Spring Valley after his discharge. He owned and operated a motel and cafe in Grand Meadow for a few years before moving to Tacoma, Wash. He held various positions with the U.S. Postal Service, including postmaster in Sequim, Wash. He attended Tacoma Community College and later received a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Central Washington University. After retiring in 1985, he owned a tax and accounting business until moving to Lime Springs in 1999.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, LaDonna; a son, David (Cynthia) of Seattle; two daughters, Julie (Michael) McGillivray and Tina Jahns, both of Tacoma; five stepchildren, Cheryl Young of Gig Harbor, Wash., Marlene “Midge” (Russell) Beers and Gordon (Keeley) Strong, both of Seattle, Karen Finley of Tacoma and Susan (Roger) Morgan of Saundestown, R.I.; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marcella (Harvey) Merkel and Shirley (Harold) Rollie, both of Spring Valley; and two brothers, William (Shirley) of Lake City and Bob (Mary) of Omaha, Neb.
The funeral was March 22, 2003 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lime Springs, Iowa, with the Rev. Linda Presholt Johnson officiating. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Lime Springs was in charge of arrangements.
