Bunge - Waldo Franklin

Waldo Franklin Bunge, 74, of Lanesboro and Preston, died March 21, 2004 at his son's home in Preston.

He was born on March 26, 1929 in Caledonia to Franklin and Hilda (Fruechte) Bunge. Following his release from the Marine Corps, he married Marilyn Annette Myrah on January 1, 1954. He received his B.A from Luther College in Decorah in 1956. He taught at Hawthorne Elementary in Rochester for three years before moving to Preston where he was the Elementary School principal for seven years. He served as principal of the Golden Hill Elementary School in Rochester for five years and then taught for fifteen years at Jefferson Elementary School in Rochester. In the summers of 1960 and 1961 he managed Camp Minne-Wa-Kan, a Bible Camp near Bemidji, Minn. He served as chief cook at a Canadian professional hockey camp in northern Minnesota in the summers of 1976 through 1979. In 1993 he and his wife opened the Cottage House Inn in Lanesboro.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Andrew (Gail) and Eric (Gayle); one daughter, Mary Docken (Don Lucas); seven grandchildren; his mother, Hilda; brother-in-law Stanley Schaub; two brothers, Wilfred (Ruth) and Wayne (Marian) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, and one sister.

A memorial service for Waldo Franklin Bunge was held March 26, 2004 at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston. The burial will be at a later date. Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston was in charge of arrangements.
