Ullom - Percy LeMoyne

Percy LeMoyne Ullom, 80, of Chester, died March 19, 2004 at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco, Iowa.

Born Jan. 20, 1924, in LeRoy, to Harold Richard Ullom and Borghild Elise Lunberg. He attended school in Beaver Township, Fillmore County, and graduated from Chester High School in 1941. On June 16, 1945, he married Winnifred Cray at her parents' home in Chester. He farmed all his working life, first with his father in Minnesota and then south of Chester after his marriage. He retired in January 1999 due to illness with a heart condition. Mr. Ullom was a lifelong member of the Chester Methodist Church, served on the town council, Chester-Lime Springs Co-op board, county boards, Chester School Board, Chester Telephone board and on the Chester Hill Cemetery Board for nearly 30 years, including as its president. He helped organize softball in the Chester community and coached the 12-to-18-year-olds team for many years. A conservationist, he was named Howard County and Northeast Iowa Wildlife Farmer of the Year in 1988 and placed second in the state competition.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rick (Jane) and Bob (Becky), both of Chester; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bill of LeRoy.

A memorial service for Percy LeMoyne Ullom was March 24, 2004 at Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy, with the Rev. Candi Carey officiating. Burial was in Chester Hill Cemetery.
