Thompson - Luella Jane

Luella Jane Thompson, 80, of Chatfield, died Aug. 12, 2004 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, where she had been a patient for one week.

Luella LaFortune was born July 6, 1924, in Eyota Township, Olmsted County. She married Ingvold Hovda in Grand Meadow in 1942; they later divorced. She married Clifford Thompson in 1953 in Rochester. He died in August 1973. She graduated District 4 Marion grade school and attended Chatfield High School. She worked for East Center Grocery and Macs Grocery in Rochester as a cashier. She then worked as a sales clerk for Johnson Craft and Sewing Machines Co. in Apple Valley, Minn. She was an executive housekeeper for Sheraton Inn in Bloomington, Minn. In 1979, she moved to Lake City, where she was a desk clerk for Sunset Motel until retiring in 1993, when she moved to Plainview. She was a past member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Lake City and a current member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Plainview.

Survivors include three sons, Ronald Hovda and Albert (Mary) Hovda, both of Rochester, and Robert (Jeanne) Hovda of Wabasha; five granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and special friend, Paul Hansen of Lake City. She was preceded in death by two brothers.

The funeral for Luella Jane Thompson, was Aug. 16 at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, with the Rev. David Frederickson officiating. Burial was in Chatfield Cemetery.
