Beulah O. Bearson Solberg, 99, of Decorah, Iowa, formerly of Houston, died June 4, 2004 at the Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah, Iowa.

Beulah O. Bearson was born Sept. 29, 1904, on a farm near Lanesboro. She attended rural schools, and went to a rural school during the summer to learn the Norwegian language. As a young woman, she worked at the Langlie Olson and Fladager Department Store in Lanesboro and the G. B. Ellestad Jewelry Store. At the department store, she was known as the Norwegian girl, because she could help customers who only spoke Norwegian. On Sept. 20, 1932, she married Paul L. Solberg in Rushford. The couple lived in Lanesboro, where Mr. Solberg worked at Solberg Meat Market. In 1935, they moved to Harmony after purchasing a restaurant there. When they sold this, they bought a restaurant in Houston and were in business there for 40 years. Mrs. Solberg was a dispatcher for many years after retirement. She arranged transportation for senior citizens for their medical appointments. She also was instrumental in establishing the Houston senior center. One of her favorite activities was delivering meals on wheels. Mrs. Solberg had been a resident of the Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah for the past two years. She was a member of the Houston Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Dagmar (Carrol) Anderson of Decorah; a son, Earl (Joan) of Grand Rapids, Mich.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Her husband, two sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.

The funeral for Beulah O. Bearson Solberg was June 10 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro, with the Revs. John Anderson and Patricia Hawley co-officiating. Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery in Lanesboro. Hoff Funeral Homes Houston Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
