Blahnik - Mary

Mary Blahnik, 86, of Spring Valley, died July 17, 2005 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Mary Barbara Snyder was born April 28, 1919, in Austin, attended school in Austin and graduated as valedictorian of Augustine High School (Pacelli) in 1936. She attended Teachers Normal School and taught in two country schools in the Austin area. On June 15, 1939, she married Louis Blahnik at Queen of Angels Church in Austin. They farmed in the Austin area until 1962, and then farmed north of Spring Valley until the late 1970s. She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and its Womens Altar Society; was a school board member, a 4-H Club leader, and a member of the Science Hill Birthday Club and the Country Bumpkins.

Survivors include four sons, Jim (Marion) of Dover, Joe of Brownsville, Don (Brenda) of Red Wing and Fred (Carla) of Racine; eight daughters, Mary (Kenneth) Haggerty of Goodhue, Darlene Schmitt of Stratford, Wis., Dorothy (Jerry) Denisen of Grand Meadow, Carolyn Greeley of Wabasha, Elizabeth (Jerry) Pestka and Bonnie Sawyer, both of Rochester, Cathy (Jack) Bly of La Crescent and Barb (Marty) Smalley of Coeur dAlene, Idaho; 50 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul (Irene) Snyder and Gene (Adeline) Snyder, both of Grand Meadow; and four sisters, Catherine Blahnik of Spring Valley, Angie (Jerry) Viktora of Austin, Sister Ruth Snyder of Peru, South America, and Mariah Snyder of Lauderdale, Minn. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969, two sons, four grandchildren and two brothers.

The funeral Mass for Mary Blahnik was July 21 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley, with the Rev. Steven Peterson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hindt Funeral Home of Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
