Evelyn R. Tousley, 83, of Stone Lake, Wis., formerly of Chatfield and Rochester, died May 7, 2003 at her home.
Evelyn Somsen was born Jan. 15, 1920, in Baldwin, Wis. She attended Baldwin schools and graduated as salutatorian from Baldwin High in 1938. She received her bachelors of science degree in elementary education from River Falls State Teachers College in 1943 and was a member of Sigma Chi Sorority. She taught fourth grade in Rhinelander, Wis. She married Doyle "Tim" Tousley in 1943 in Woodville, Miss., while residing in Baton Rouge, La., where she worked for a lawyer. The couple moved to Brownwood, Texas, where she was a substitute teacher. She moved to Baldwin while her husband was in military service and she taught fifth grade in Barron, Wis. After World War II, they moved to Chatfield and in 1956 moved to Rochester, where she was active in church and school organizations, the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Communications Workers of America.
Surviving are her husband; a son, Thomas (Ann) of Camillus, N.Y.; a daughter, Susan (John) Tibstra of Bemidji, Minn.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald (Irene) Somsen of Baldwin. She was preceded in death by a sister, a brother and two infant children.
The funeral was May 17, 2003 in First Lutheran Church in Hayward, Wis., with the Rev. Carl Bruihler officiating. Burial was in Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Baldwin, Wis.
