Letter about joint law enforcement between Preston and Lanesboro

My admiration for Sheriff Jim Connelly was enhanced by his impartial presentation to the Lanesboro City Council on August 18. According to news reports, he suggested Lanesboro discuss working with the City of Preston before considering his agency for law enforcement services. The Sheriff had the enviable opportunity to forcefully promote the competent services of his department. Instead, our Sheriff weighed the options, and suggested an alternative first be considered, before discussing his offices potential involvement.

I find Sheriff Connellys frankness with the city council indicative of a man with enviable, Fillmore County values. Commitment to the safety of our towns and county while watching the taxpayers dollar was surely the Sheriffs primary concern during his thoughtful reflection on this opportunity. How fortunate we are to have an elected official infused with such an unselfish ethic: budget conscious, public safety invariably trumps bureaucratic gain.
