Letter to the Preston Mayor and City Council

I moved to Preston about 13 years ago. As I came over the hill at the golf course for the first time, I was sure I had dropped into heaven Ė the rolling hills were so green and everyone I met was very kind and welcoming Ė I knew Iíd found my town for life.

There are always those little spats that you have anywhere you live but all in all everyone got along. Then it seemed all hell broke lose when the Heartland deal came to town. I donít know if I want it or not, but as a taxpayer in Preston, we have to move on.

I look at each of you sitting at the table at the council meetings and I have to say I have never been so disappointed in all of you in your actions of running our great city. A few of you were the ones welcoming me to town and have become my friends. Now I sit at your meetings and I feel like you donít even know we are there or listen to any of us because you only have one agenda and that is to undermine each other and then nothing gets done.

I have talked to each of you about the Spring Street project and when I was done I walked away feeling you didnít care about my problem. We, the taxpayers have come to meetings asking what can be done for all of us so a few donít have to pay so much. All we got was you staring us down and you did it your way (against the advice of the city attorney). I have spoken to a lot of people in Preston and they feel the whole town should pay for the Spring Street project (along with the other repairs that need to be done in town) since it is the main by-way in Preston.

I feel there is only one thing on the Councilís mind and that is to see who can spear or destroy whom first. You donít seem to care how much money you spend on lawyers or where the money is coming from. The money is coming from the taxpayers who you will not take the time to talk to Ė you were put in office to represent all of us, not just a few. I think it is time to take off your blinders and look around before you bankrupt Preston. For one, (and I think I speak for a lot of us in Preston) we want our town back and we want everyone in Minnesota to stop laughing at us.

So I ask you, if you care about this town as much as a lot of us do Ė please, please, please, will you start working together before itís too late. I would like you all to look at yourselves Ė Mr. Mayor and cou .....
