Letter about sign regarding Preston City CouncilEditor’s note: Following the Monday, August 18, Preston City Council meeting, a sign was placed on the council chambers that read: Is Preston being DICTATED by Mayor Pechulis? No! It’s being PROSTITUTED by Gartner, Scheevel, + Mensink! Shame on you.”

To the Editor,To whom it may concern,The year was 1962, the artist was Chubby Checker and the song was “Limbo Rock.” Now you are probably asking yourself what is the relevance and where the heck is this leading?Well..., within the chorus of Chubby’s song is a question which you will remember well if you ever did the limbo, “How low can you go?” My question to whomever made the sign which was displayed in front of the Preston Council Chambers is how low can you go?The aforementioned sign accuses councilmen Gartner, Mensink and Scheevel of “prostituting” the city of Preston. This accusation is utterly deplorable and much lower than “low.” The masterpiece was (of course) not signed by the artist, forcing me to write this letter rather than confront the artist directly. In fairness, however, all of the words were spelled correctly. This leads me to believe that the artist may be relatively intelligent. Therefore, I hope this person understands that they have slandered and defamed the characters of these three civic minded individuals. If the artist does not understand the meanings of slander and defamation, I recommend that they reference either Mr. Thorndike or Mr. Webster.Simply stated, councilmen Gartner, Scheevel and Mensink are doing their best as elected officials. Whether you or I agree with them or not, they certainly do not deserve this type of treatment. As for whoever put this sign together I would like to ask you again, how low can you go? I would answer it by stating that you have lowered yourself to the same level as whale droppings. The poster shamed, more than once, the three councilmen. Now I would like to say directly to the artist, shame on you. Gary FeinePreston, Mn
