What Goes Up...

"This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." Acts 1:11 NIV

My daughter recently purchased an inexpensive rubber bracelet in remembrance of a school friend who had died. Several times she expressed the wish that she too could be in heaven. She views heaven as joy filled and much better than anything we can experience in this world. Consider the economic and environmental problems facing our world. Look at the hatred and anger that willingly destroys the peace and happiness of innocent men, women and children. Why wouldn't a person want to be in heaven? Can you imagine anyone leaving the joy and peaceful perfection of heaven to live here?

Jesus, God's Son, left the glory of heaven to suffer on earth for the sins of humans. Jesus willingly left heaven so that he could make a way for us to be forgiven by God. Jesus then ascended into heaven and resumed his position of authority. As Jesus disappeared behind the clouds, angels in white appeared to announce that Jesus would return. Why would Jesus come to earth again? His coming again will bring to an end the cycle of suffering and death. God will then make everything new. While we're waiting let's make sure everyone knows. See you in church!
