The Kingsland School Board met at its regular meeting on Monday, December 21, at the Kingsland High School District Conference Room. All members were present. The agenda was approved with two additions.

Public Thank Yous

Superintendent of Schools, Darren Strosahl, thanked Rick Hyland and Rusty Hellickson for the donation of tanned hides, which have been used at Kingsland in several educational settings. He thanked Sandy and Phil Nauman for their donation of an engine and for the outpouring of support from staff and community during the passing of teacher Wally Beevers.

With no public comments at this meeting, Suzanne Riley, executive director of the Southeast Services Cooperative (SSC) was introduced to the board. Riley outlined the types of services Kingsland has used and the cost savings that have resulted. SSC programs and services include school improvement services, professional development, K-12 student enrichment, special grant projects, health benefits and wellness programs, cooperative purchasing and environmental health and safety programs. Riley stated that Kingsland had received $63,000 in benefits in one year as a result of being a member of SSC.

Members of the FFA reported on their trip to the FFA convention in Indianapolis and shared a slide show depicting highlights of the trip. Board member Mike Zimmer chaperoned the trip and commented that he was honored to accompany such a fine group of students. "They represented Kingsland well," he said.

New Business

He told the board about workshops he recently conducted with elementary teachers to brainstorm ways to do more with less. A data gathering retreat was also conduced at the middle school to address issues with math, reading and science.

The board approved the appointment of Doris Kramer for a two year term on the Osterud Foundation Board.
