PRESTON - Jesse Alan Nelson and John Mark Olson were in Fillmore County District Court on Monday, October 15, to enter guilty pleas to amended charges from a crime spree in the Chatfield area in 2004.
The two men were accomplices of former Chatfield Police Officer Ryan Lettner, who was sentenced on October 1, 2007 to 180 days in jail, fined $6000 and ordered to pay more than $16,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to two felony counts of liability for the crimes of another and receiving stolen property.
On Monday, Nelson and Olson pled guilty to four gross misdemeanor charges of theft. Two of the charges were from Fillmore County and one each from Wabasha and Olmsted counties.
Under questioning from their attorneys, both Nelson and Olson admitted stealing construction equipment and other property from construction sites in the area. The items were fenced by Lettner using the internet auction site eBay.
Fillmore County Attorney Brett Corson told the Journal that the amended charges were due in part to Nelson and Olson both cooperating with authorities in their investigation. Both men were prepared to testify at trial against Lettner.
Judge Robert Benson ordered court services to conduct a pre-sentence investigation before sentencing takes place on January 7, 2008. Both men are free on their own recognizance on $5000 bond.
Felony Sentencing
Kiel William Schleusner, 23, of Rochester was sentenced on Monday, October 15, in District Court after pleading guilty to two counts of burglary and one count of receiving stolen property. All other charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Schleusner admitted to burglarizing Suzie's Roadhouse in Ostrander, Tootie's Little Rock Saloon in Spring Valley and a Wykoff home between August 16 and September 26, 2006.
Judge Robert Benson stayed execution of sentencing for 10 years. Judge Benson placed Schleusner on probation and ordered him to serve 120 days electronic home monitoring, pay $500 in fines on each count, as well as restitution.
