Appearances

Garrett Ray Ballinger, age 18, appeared before Judge Robert R. Benson on July 27, 2009 for three counts relating to possession of marijuana. On June 5, 2009, Ballinger, along with Dylan Douglas Hanson, age 19, and Dusty Lee Gregory, age 20, all from Chatfield, were pulled over when a Chatfield police officer recognized Ballinger, who had an Apprehension Order out for him. All three men face the same three counts revolving around the alleged possession of marijuana. All defendants were released on their own recognizance with an order to not speak to each co-defendant. In addition, Balllinger and Gregory have an unconditional bail set at $10,000, with Hanson maintaining his $20,000 bond stemming from another case. Ballinger and Gregory are schedule for their next court appearance on August 10, 2009, while Hanson's next court appearance is slated for August 17, 2009.

On the evening of July 17, 2009, Loren Todd Saxon of Preton allegedly became beligerent with a Preston police officer and Fillmore County deputy while under the influence of alcohol. As Saxon's behavior allegedly escallated with threatening remarks, the officers deemed it necessary to arrest him and take him to detox in Rochester. Throughout the trip to Rochester, Saxon allegedly continued making threatening statements toward both officers, additionally referencing how he would like to harm two other officers not present, including Fillmore County Sheriff Daryl Jensen. Saxon, age 43, appeared before Judge James A. Fabian on July 21, 2009, facing four felony counts of terroristic threats directed at four peace officers, in addition to one felony count of fourth degree assault of a peace officer during a lawful arrest, and one count of resisting arrest. Saxon posted bail, with the terms of conditional bail set at $20,000 and unconditional bail set at $40,000. Judge Fabian also ordered Saxon to make no contact with the four peace officers involved in the case. Additionally, Saxon was ordered not to enter bars, or have contact with someone using alcohol. His next court appearance has been scheduled for August 3, 2009.

A Spring Valley couple, Lyle Grabau, age 47, and Charlene Grabau, age 45, appeared before Judge Robert R. Benson on July 20, 2009, facing eleven counts revolving around the alleged neglect of rabbits, cats, Laborador-type dogs and cocker spaniels, with four of those charges asserting their neglect resulted in the death of those animals.
