Sheriff Daryl Jensen announced his candidacy this week for his second term as Fillmore County sheriff. The Fillmore County Board of Commissioners appointed Jensen sheriff in April of 2005 and Jensen was elected in November 2006.
Jensen started his career as a patrol deputy in Spring Valley in 1979 and has served the people of Fillmore County in several capacities over the last 30 years. Jensen said that he has learned a lot about what the people of Fillmore County want and expect and wants to continue to provide good public service, even in difficult economic times.
Jensen cites that his office has worked closely with the Fillmore County Board of Commissioners in their 'redesign' efforts and the county's emergency communication interoperability needs that will soon be subject to federal mandates. Jensen went on to say that his office is working with the other sheriff's in southeastern Minnesota to see how they can share technology, improve service to the public and work on ways to reduce expenses.
Sheriff Jensen has served as the Minnesota Sheriff's Association District Director for the thirteen counties in southeastern Minnesota since 2008 and was recently installed as director for 2010. Jensen just finished a two-year term as the chair person of the Board of Trustees for the Sheriff's Youth Programs of Minnesota.
Sheriff Jensen started the first Citizens' Academy in Fillmore County in 2009 and plans to run a second academy in the fall of 2010.
Jensen is married with two adult children and one granddaughter.
