Do I need to test my dog for Heartworm and Lyme Disease?

Absolutely. Both of these infections are common and can be fatal. All it takes to contract them is a bite from an infected mosquito (heartworms) or tick (Lyme disease). Even if your dog is on a monthly heartworm preventative, it's still important to test him on a regular basis to ensure that he has not been infected. Also, Lyme infected ticks are common in Fillmore County, and unfortunately, monthly preventative isn't always enough. So be sure to test for and vaccinate against Lyme disease annually, especially if your dog spends time outdoors. Early detection is the key to successful treatment of these deadly diseases. Call our office today at 507-765-2117 to schedule a heartworm and Lyme disease test for your dog and to discuss preventative options.
