"H2O Show" at Lanesboro Arts Center to feature work by 43 regional artists

43 regional artists will be featured in the upcoming "H2O Show" at the Lanesboro Arts Center, 103 Parkway Ave N. in Lanesboro, Minnesota. Focused on the subject of water, the exhibit will run October 22 - December 23, 2011, with an opening reception on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 6-8 p.m. (this is free and open to the public!). The exhibit will include work in a variety of visual arts media: ceramic, fiber, jewelry, leather, mixed media, painting, pastel, photography, printmaking, and wood. Gallery Director Robbie Brokken comments on the entries received for the juried show: "I am astounded by the response we had . . . over 350 pieces of artwork submitted, which we narrowed down to include 48 in the exhibit. Every time we do an invitational juried group show, I am amazed by the fact that you can give a group of artists one concept, and each artist always does something completely different! The results are always entirely unique." The exhibit is sponsored by F&M Community Bank and supported by the Minnesota State Arts Board.

Other events in conjunction with the H2O Show all focus on water. There will be a Food & Film event on Saturday, Oct. 29, with the showing of the documentary film "FLOW" at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Mane Theatre (206 Parkway Ave N.). Irena Salina's award-winning film investigates what experts label the most political and environmental issue of the 21st Century: The World Water Crisis. Prior to the film, event co-sponsor Lanesboro Local will host a Food Tasting (207 Parkway Ave N.). Following the film, discussion will be led by David Williams, local attorney and chair of MN Environmental Partnership. Free-will donations will help defray the cost of showing the film. On Saturday, Nov. 12 from 1-3 p.m. will be a Kids Create "Water! Watercolor" Family Art Activity at the St. Mane Theatre, a free event for people of all ages. On Thursday, Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m. will be a 30-minute presentation: "All the Water in the World" by Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center, free to the public and held in the commons at the Commonweal Theatre Company (208 Parkway Ave N.). This precedes the CTC's comedic play 'Parfumerie' held at 7:30 p.m. (for tickets call 800-657-7025).

Artists featured in the H2O exhibit: Renée Bergstrom, photography; Lori Biwer-Stewart, linocut; Paul Brokken, oil; Liz Bucheit, jewelry; Mandy Chowen, acrylic; Andy Chulyk, mixed; Mary Coughlan, etching; Julia Crozier, mixed; Steve DeLaitsch, watercolor; Marv Eggert, pho .....
