Lanesboro Winter Escapades

Fri, Nov 5th, 2010
Posted in Arts & Culture

As winter approaches and the holiday season gets underway, it is normal for people to get busy. Stress can be high this time of year, with the expenses and work of planning the holiday get-togethers. It is also a time that many people do not get out and enjoy themselves as often as they would in the summer.

The Lanesboro Area Chamber of Commerce is trying to remedy all of that with a celebration that will take place the first three weekends in December. The 2010 Winter Escapades promises to get people out of their homes and having fun while enjoying the holiday season.

Brian Luna from the Chamber of Commerce promises the events are good for people of all ages.

"You won't believe what is in store for the entire family, including Grandma, Aunt Betty, and even Fido the dog!" says Luna.

Local businesses, organizations, and Bed and Breakfasts are all getting in on the fun to encourage people to come to Lanesboro. Escapade Buttons can be purchased at Potiche Pottery and Gifts for five dollars starting on Friday, December 3. Discounts and promotions will be given throughout the celebration for owning this button. Bed and Breakfasts will be offering their weekend visitors half-price tickets to the Christmas Inn Tour on Sunday, December 5. Regular tickets will cost $20. Discounts will be given for the Commonweal Theatre Co. presentation of Little Women. Discounts on food and drinks will be given at local restaurants. Retail shops will also have special promotions for people wearing their Escapades button.

Luna said he came up with the idea last winter. After receiving support from the Chamber and the city council, he began planning. "I started getting all of the people involved," said Luna. "We have really all been working on getting things organized since August."

This is Luna's second year as a member of the Lanesboro Area Chamber of Commerce. He is involved it the Beautification and the Government boards of the Chamber. This will be the first year of the Lanesboro Escapades, but Luna said they are already booked to have it again next year.

There are so many things going on those three weekends that everyone should find something enjoyable to do. Children can see a free Christmas movie, Elf, at the Commonweal Theatre on December 4. They can also paint Christmas ornaments with Santa at Potiche Pottery and Gifts that same day. Breakfast with Santa, with breakfast made by the Lanesboro Lions, will .....
