Story-tellers and Irish Minstrels at Dream Acres Farm

Fri, Jul 15th, 2011
Posted in Arts & Culture

The Dreamery Rural Arts Initiative on DreamAcres Farm welcomes Austin and Albert Lea Story-tellers Mike Cotter and Bev Jackson, along with Spring Valley's Irish Minstrels, for an evening of stories and music on July 23 at 8pm. This is part of the summer Play! in the Barn performance series underwritten by a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts council with funds from the Minnesota State Legislature. Tickets for the show are $12, but advanced reservations, senior and student rates can be obtained for $10.

Michael Cotter is a third-generation farmer of Irish heritage. Having grown up on a farm outside Austin, Minnesota, he has become nationally recognized for his gritty and heart-warming stories of a family farming in the Midwest from the period of the Great Depression to the present.

Bev Jackson is a native of the Albert Lea area, and tells stories of her rural upbringing that provide both complement and contrast to Mr. Cotter's stories.

The Irish Minstrels are well-known in the Spring Valley area, primarily for their Irish music. For this event, however, the band will highlight some of their original tunes and songs, telling their own stories. This will be their first event at DreamAcres.

The Dreamery Rural Arts Initiative is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting and expanding arts experiences in rural Fillmore County, and to making use of renewable/sustainable energy sources to do so. For more information, including directions to the farm, or to make reservations, call 507-352-4255, or visit websites at www.dreamacresfarm.org. or www.dreameryruralartsinitiative.org.
