Lanesboro, Minn. – ‘Around the World’ is the theme for the upcoming “Over the Back Fence” Community Variety Show, held on Friday, July 12 at 7:30pm at the St. Mane Theatre in Lanesboro, Minn. Accordionation (duo of Barb Keith and Bill Swanson) will provide pre-show music beginning at 7:10pm. Show highlights will include an Irish toast, a German song, storytelling of Norwegian heritage, the song ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’ by the Over the Back Fence gang, audience sing-alongs, poems, jokes, and more. Farmer and musician Chuck Suchy will be the musical guest, performing three songs as a sneak peak to his solo concert on Saturday night July 13 at the St. Mane Theatre (tickets available: $15/$12). We will also get a glimpse of the upcoming Lanesboro Community Theatre production ‘Radio Gals’ from cast members (Sandy Webb, Bonnie Hulsing, Beth Hennessy, Kay Wold, Barbara Benson Keith, Val Tindall and Kevin Hoeltzle). Host Damon Prestemon will be on his toes as usual, joined by Stela Burdt at the keyboard; Stela will also delight audiences with a song. In sponsor interviews, we will learn about Niagara Cave, the Great River Shakespeare Festival, and Lanesboro Local.

The “Over the Back Fence” Community Variety Show is a program of the Lanesboro Arts Center. The show took shape 18 years ago in the St. Mane Theatre, with many of the same cast members involved. “Over the Back Fence” takes the stage at the St. Mane Theatre on second Fridays February through November. Each show will also be broadcast on KFIL Radio 103.1FM at 7pm on the Sunday nine days following each live show. Show tickets are $7 for adults and for $4 students. Advance purchase is recommended, as this show plays to a full house! Tickets are available at the Lanesboro Arts Center, 507-467-2446 (open Mon-Thurs 10-5, Fri-Sat 10-7 and Sunday 11-4), and—if any tickets are left—at the St. Mane Theatre beginning at 6:30pm on show nights. The St. Mane Theatre is handicapped accessible, located at 206 Parkway Ave N. in Lanesboro, Minn. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
