'Street Beats: Dance Through the Decades' will be presented by River North Dance Chicago

DECORAH, Iowa – Luther College invites the community to watch a production of "Street Beats: Dance Through the Decades" presented by the River North Dance Chicago group at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 14, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on Luther's campus.

Tickets are just $2, available at the Luther College Box Office and cannot be purchased online. The show is recommended for students in grades 3 and up, and area schools have seating priority for the matinees. Community members are welcome as space is available. For more information on ticket sales, contact the Luther College Box Office at (563) 387-1293 or Bradley Phillips, Box Office Manager at phillibr@luther.edu.

The hour-long show covers the evolution of dance from the flapper dresses of the 1920's to the hammer pants of the 1990's with lively choreography and costume changes for each decade. It shows students the historical and social conditions of the 20th century and how they influenced dance. Each decade is introduced with a narrative that comments on major events, historical figures, popular music and fashion. The dancers bring each decade to life with dance performances in historically accurate costumes.

"Street Beats: Dance Through the Decades" is part of Luther College's 2013-14 School Matinee Series. The performance is sponsored by Winneshiek Medical Center, Mayo Clinic Health System and Luther College.
