Poetry workshops hosted by Lanesboro Arts Center on May 2-3

Fri, Apr 18th, 2014
Posted in Lanesboro Arts & Culture

Lanesboro Arts Center is offering an opportunity to ‘Experience Poetry!’ The public is invited to participate in a poetry workshop, where Ed Bok Lee will provide an introduction to poetry and an overview of its many forms. Participants will experiment with creating their own haiku and poems with guidance from Ed. The 1.5 hour workshop will be offered on two dates (participants will choose one date to attend): Friday, May 2 at 7 p.m. held in ‘The Roost’ at Pedal Pushers Café in Lanesboro (come early and eat supper on your own downstairs in the Café), and Saturday, May 3 from 1:30 – 3 p.m. at the Lanesboro Public Library. The workshop is recommended for ages 13+ and is FREE and open to the public. To attend the workshop, please RSVP to Lanesboro Arts Center, 507-467-2446 / info@lanesboroarts.org.

These workshops are part of a larger initiative to bring more poetry to Lanesboro through an annual poetry contest (details TBA) and the creation of the Poetry Parking Lot – which will incorporate poetry created by local and regional residents -- as part of the Lanesboro Arts Campus. Supported by ArtPlace and the National Endowment for the Arts, the Lanesboro Arts Campus will be comprised of buildings that house the arts (the Lanesboro Arts Center gallery building and the St. Mane Theatre), pedestrian walkways, and arts in public spaces (including the Poetry Parking Lot at the bass pond and the Gateway Sculpture Park, which is the green space south of the historic walking bridge near the baseball field).

ED BOK LEE is the author of “Whorled”, winner of an American Book Award and a Minnesota Book Award; and Real Karaoke People, winner of a PEN/Open Book Award. Lee has worked as a physical education instructor, journalist, bartender, and translator, and holds an MFA from Brown University. He teaches part-time at Metropolitan State University, and his plays have been seen at major regional and national theaters including the Guthrie Theater, New York Theater Workshop, Joseph Papp Public Theater, Theater Mu, Taipei Theater, Trinity Repertory Company, and the Walker Art Center.

In Lanesboro, Minn., the Lanesboro Arts Center serves as a regional catalyst for artistic and educational development in providing diverse arts experiences for people of all ages. 507-467-2446 | info@lanesboroarts.org | [Read the Rest]
