Mabel, Minnesota is snug-gled in the southeast corner of Fillmore County; 60 miles SE of Rochester, 120 miles south of the Twin Cities; 40 miles SW of LaCrosse, Wisconsin or just 20 miles north of Decorah, Iowa.

Frank Adams was the chief construction engineer of the Narrow Gauge Railroad that built the first railroad through Mabel. Frank Adams platted the Village of Mabel in the fall of 1879, naming it Mabel in honor of his little daughter.

The Steam Engine Park is located on the south edge of Mabel. The park is open to the public and provides picnic shelters for family get-togethers, new playground equipment, horseshoe pits and one of the best ball diamonds in the area.

The second annual 50's & 60's Days will be held August 11 and 12th this year. Classic cars will line main street for all to view on Saturday afternoon. Businesses will have items marked for the sidewalk sales and there will be city-wide rummage sales. Come early for great bargains! The Cruisers Family Restaurant will be celebrating their 1st anniversary and will be featuring some 50's and 60's burger specials. Stop in to see the 50's decor. BBG's will hold a 50's and 60's dance on Saturday night. Be sure to meet your friends in Mabel for a walk down memory lane.

You'll enjoy one of the biggest events in the area when you come to Hesper-Mabel Steam Engine Day's. The annual celebration is held in the park the first weekend after Labor Day. It features threshing machines powered by steam engines; two gigantic parades that start with the old steam engines sounding their whistles down main street; arts and crafts; an antique show; a quilt show and many other exciting activities. Every year a carnival sets up on the park grounds for the 'big' kids. Stage shows are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday afternoons and also for Sunday evening. The weekend winds down with drawings held by various community organizations. The grand prize is a new pick-up and all gather to hear if they are the lucky winner. Be sure to plan on joining the city of Mabel for this fun-packed weekend, September 9th and 10th.

Visit the Steam Engine Museum in the Steam Engine Park open Memorial Day through Labor Day by appointment. All the machines that are demonstrated during the Steam Engine Days Celebration are displayed in the museum. These fascinating steam engines and other old machines amaze people of all ages.
