Chuck Hanson

Chuck Hanson, 73, of Houston, a retired Air Force firefighter, died Tuesday, October 17, 2000 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI.

Born January 29, 1927, in Ridgeway to John and Oline Babler, he and his twin brother were adopted by Obert and Effie Hanson as infants, grew up in Houston and graduated from Houston High School. On May 15, 1961, he married Birde Houser. After retiring in 1971 following a 25-1/2-year career in the Air Force, he managed the Houston American Legion Club for 15-1/2 years and was in charge of organizing military honors for funerals for many years. Mr. Hanson was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge and American Legion, all in Houston. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed having coffee with friends at the local cafe.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gene (Linda) Stark and Brian (Michelle), both of Houston; five daughters, Jodine (Dwight) Emerson of Saugus, CA, Dorothy "Dee" (Sam) Kuster of Houston, Dera (Paul Landry) Johnson of Rochester, and Debra (Mark) Honsey and Marion (Gary) Skree, both of Rushford; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Bev) Babler of Winona and John Babler of Red Wing; and three sisters, Ada (Clarence) Wilson of Iowa, Mary Ann (Woody) Wilson of Dresbach, MN, and Anna (Junior) Thompson of Caledonia. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and 11 brothers and sisters.

The funeral for Mr. Hanson was held Saturday, October 21, 2000 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery in Houston, with military graveside rites by the Houston American Legion. Hoff Funeral Homes-Houston Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
