Floyd Kuehnast

Floyd Kuehnast, 82, of Lanesboro, a retired farmer, died Sunday, September 17, 2000, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin where he had resided two years.

Born Oct. 14, 1917, in Beaver Township, Humboldt County, IA, he attended a confirmation school between seventh and eighth grades and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1937. He attended Zion Lutheran Church in Beaver Township. On Aug. 24, 1940, he married Maxine Blesie. She survives. He rented several farms in the LuVerne, Iowa, area before returning to Beaver Township in Humboldt County, and in 1952 the family moved to a farm near Lanesboro.

Mr. Kuehnast received the American Future Farmer degree in 1940 and later an award from Goodyear for his conservation practices of contours and terracing, which are still in place today. After his dairy herd of Holstein and brown Swiss cows was sold, he was a school bus driver for a number of years. He was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, including serving on the church council, and was an adult adviser for the Lanesboro FFA program. He enjoyed woodworking, flower and vegetable gardening and traveling.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Annette (Richard) Kiehne of Austin, Linda (Jim) Iverson of Zumbrota and Julie (Dale) Magee of Bloomington, MN; two sons, Donavon (Lois) of Northfield, Minn., and Douglas (Donna) of Willmar, MN; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A brother and a sister preceded him in death.

The funeral for Mr. Kuehnast was held Wednesday, September 20, 2000, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro, with the Revs. Kerry Eversole and Greg Mannel co-officiating. Burial was in Lanesboro Cemetery. Johnson-Riley Funeral Home in Lanesboro was in charge of arragements.
