Charles Thomas Murphy

Charles Thomas Murphy, 78, of Whalan, a retired Quarve and Anderson Construction Co. employee, died March 13, 2001 at Winona Community Hospital.

He was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Lake City and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He had resided in Whalan the past 35 years. On July 3, 1963, he married Pearl A. Chiglo in Lanesboro. Mr. Murphy was a loader operator for Quarve and Anderson Construction Co. of Rochester for 25 years and was a member of Union Local .

Survivors include his wife; a son, Charles "Tom" (Deborah) of Atlanta; two daughters, Kelley (David) Ruberg and Melanie Murphy, both of Winona; four grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Joyce) Murphy of Winona and Jim Flood of Bakersfield, Calif.; and three sisters, Kate (John) Haneca and Jean (Richard) Reinhard, both of Lake City, and Helen (Jake) Baker of Bakersfield, Calif.

The funeral for Charles Thomas Murphy was held March 17, 2001 at Whalan Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion. Johnson-Riley Funeral Home in Lanesboro was in charge of arrangements.
