To the Editor,

There has been a lot of publicity regarding the mentoring program that we hope to get started throughout Fillmore County. Sometimes the word mentor is a little scary - especially to men. To help put it in perspective, lets ask ...
What does a young boy need from an adult mentor?
Someone to play catch.
Someone to make a snowman with him.
Someone to teach him how to play checkers.
Someone to take him fishing.
Someone to take him to a high school basketball game.
Someone to help him fly a kite.
Someone to help him build something.
Someone who will take him to a farm.
Someone who will teach him how to skip rocks.
Someone who will look at his baseball card collection.
Someone who will say, good job.

Are you a male, 21 or older? Can you do any of the above? Then please consider being a mentor. Theres a young boy who just might need you. Please call, and find out more about being a mentor.

If you live in the Fillmore Central school district, call Phyllis Hendrickson, 937-3455; Chatfield school district, call Laurie Bakken, 867-3726; Kingsland, Lanesboro, Mabel-Canton or Rushford-Peterson districts, call LuAnn Klevan, 346-2258.

Thank you for giving it some thought.
