Lyle E. Wilbur

Lyle Wilbur, 83, of Decorah, formerly of Prosper, died of congestive heart failure Wednesday, January 10, 2001, at Oneota Riverview Care Facility in Decorah.

Lyle Wilbur was born February 14, 1917 in Hesper Township, Winnesheik County, IA, the son of Reuben Lee and Bessie Elizabeth (Sheley) Wilbur. He was a 1936 graduate of Mabel High School. On September 6, 1941, he married Alice L. Albertson at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church. The couple farmed in the Prosper area until 1978 when they moved to Decorah. After moving to Decorah, Lyle enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. He was an active member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church and served on several church committees. He served on the Prosper Country School Board, Mabel School Board, and the Canton Township Board. He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, playing cards and was the Iowa State Checkers Champion three times.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; three sons, Curtis (Janice) of Miller, SD., Cleon (Marilyn) of Prosper and Mark (Kathy) of Burr Oak; two daughters, Karen (Arnie) Arneson of Canton, Wanda (Ron) Haack of Bemidji, MN; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Leta Rongley of Mabel. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lee, a sister, Lois Kraling, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.

The funeral for Mr. Wilbur was held Saturday, January 6, 2001, at the United Methodist Church in Burr Oak, Iowa, with the Revs. Letha Rogers and Wayne Wasta co-officiating. Burial was in Burr Oak Cemetery.
