Virginia F. Garness

Virginia F. Garness, 85, of Rushford died May 1, 2001 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.

Virginia F. Otis was born Feb. 16, 1916, in Rushford. She grew up in the Rushford area and graduated from Rushford High School. She married Ernest Garness on Oct. 23, 1939, in Decorah, Iowa. She was active in making crafts for her friends and for area activities. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Rushford where she was a church elder and Sunday school teacher. She also was a member of the Peterson Garden Club.

Survivors include two brothers, James Otis of St. Charles and Byron (Elsie) Otis of Belvedere, Ill.; and two sisters, Grace Heublein of Rushford and Lillian (Orley) Rasmuson of Milwaukee.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, who died shortly after birth.

A memorial service for Virginia F. Garness was held May 8, 2001 at the First Presbyterian Church in Rushford, with the Rev. Robert Dreier officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove City Cemetery in Rushford at a later date. Hoff Funeral Homes-Cook Rushford Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
