Robert J. Blumer

Robert J. Blumer, 72, of Fountain, a retired farmer, died July 4, 2001 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield where he had been a patient since June 12.

He was born June 3, 1929, in rural Garner, Iowa, and served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. On March 11, 1952, he married Iola Riemer in Garner. They farmed in the Garner area until 1979 and then in rural Fountain until moving into Fountain a year ago. Mr. Blumer was a member of Farmers Co-op Creamery and Farmers Co-op Elevator, served on the Farm Bureau Board and was a 4-H leader for nine years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Donovan (Julie) of Fountain; a daughter, Barbara Blumer of Garner; two grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Thelma) of Luana, Iowa, and Harold (Dorothy) of Garner; and two sisters, Betty (Alvin) Halverson and Ivadell (Raymond) Schoenwetter, both of Garner.

The funeral was held July 7, 2001 at the United Methodist Church in Garner, Iowa, with the Revs. Kay Hooper and Roger Kallem co-officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield was in charge of arrangements.
