Goldie L. Rudlong

Goldie L. Rudlong, 71, of Ostrander, died November 22, 2001 at her home of natural causes.

Goldie L. Farnsworth was born Jan. 24, 1930 in Saratoga Township, Howard County, Iowa, and attended country schools in Iowa and Minnesota. In 1948, she graduated from Spring Valley High School. On May 24, 19, she married Alvin James Wiersma at the Methodist Church in Spring Valley. They were later divorced. On Sept. 30, 1979, she married Lester Rudlong at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Mrs. Rudlong was a mother and homemaker for many years and later was a bookkeeper for Marigold Foods for 20 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and an honorary member of its Anna Circle. She was a volunteer for PTA and 4-H, Mayo Hospice and a classroom helper at Kingsland Elementary School in Spring Valley.

Survivors include three sons, Michael (Rita) and Roger (Twila) Wiersma, both of Spring Valley, and Dale (Diane) Wiersma of Garden Grove, Calif.; three daughters, Michelle (Russell) Freeman of Springfield, Tenn., Rebecca (Jerome) Dorenkemper of Preston and Jennifer (Steve) Gunter of Springfield, Ohio; a stepson, Leslie Rudlong; a stepdaughter, Janice (Rick) Christianson of Spring Valley; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two brothers, Lee Farnsworth of Stewartville and Fay Farnsworth of Rochester; five sisters, Della Rasmusson and June (Roger) Smith, both of Rochester, Vivian (James) Shields of Lime Springs, Iowa, Virginia Necas of Cresco, Iowa, and Edythe Tupper of Sommerset, Colo. Her husband, an infant son, a grandson, a sister and five brothers preceded her in death.

The funeral was held Nov. 27, 2001 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ostrander, with the Rev. Norman Bauer officiating. Burial was in Bennington Lutheran Cemetery, Bennington Township, Mower County. Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy was in charge of arrangements.
