Dean Gillund, M.D., 60, of Spokane, WA, formerly of the Preston area, died Saturday, September 16, 2000 from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Born August 6, 1940, in Canton, MN, he attended school in Preston and graduated in 1958. In 1962 he graduated from St. Olaf college and enrolled in the University of Minnesota Medical School. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years at the Naval Hospital in Boston. After an internship in Birmingham, England and a two year pathology residency at the University of Vermont in Burlington, VT , he served as a pathologist at Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He married Andrea Gillund and they moved to Spokane in 1979 where he was a founding partner of Pathology Services of Spokane and was the Deaconess Medical Center’s laboratory director of pathology. He was a 21-year member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Spokane.
He is survived by two daughters, Kirsten Duprey of Broomfield, CO and Solveig Gillund of Seattle, WA; a granddaugher, Kaia Duprey; his mother, Signe Gillund of Preston; two brothers, Arden Gillund of Kokomo, IN, and Dan Gillund of Newark, DE; three sisters, Shirley Kroona of St. Paul, Cleo Mayfield of Columbia, TN, and Arla Sullivan of Casper, WY; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1997.
A funeral service was held Thursday, September 21, 2000 at St. Luke Lutheran Church with the Rev. Karen Bates-Olson officiating. Interment was in Fairmount Memorial Park.
