Robert L. Rislove

Robert L. Rislove, 81, of Preston, died May 11, 2002 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

He was born Nov. 8, 1920, in Rushford, the son of Peder and Mabel (Dubbs) Rislove. Robert was raised in the Rushford area and was a 1938 graduate of Rushford High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1941 and served primarily in the South Pacific until his discharge as a sergeant in January 1946. On May 12, 1945, he married Grace Amble in Peterson. Following his discharge, he worked with his father in a family painting business for several years and then became U.S. Postmaster in Peterson. From 1959 to 1982, he was employed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources as a state game warden in Fillmore County until his retirement. He often spoke on nature, hunting, fishing and firearm safety at churches, schools, 4-H clubs and sportsmen's clubs in and near Fillmore County. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and a volunteer deputy with Fillmore County Sheriff's Department for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, gun collecting and restoration, hunting, fishing, trapping and was a Boy Scout leader as a young man.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Dick (Anne) of Edina, MN, Jerry (Jeanne) of Gilbert, AZ, and Bill (Lori) of Fairfax, VA; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack (Sheila) of Rushford; and one sister, Jill Schacht of Dayton, OH. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

A memorial service for Robert L. Rislove was May 15, 2002 at Christ Lutheran Church, Preston, with the Rev. James Rushton officiating. Burial of his ashes was in Rushford Lutheran Cemetery. Thauwald Funeral Home, Preston, was in charge of arrangements.
