Saint Paul, MN -The Minnesota State Arts Board today awarded 34 grants to Minnesota artists and organizations through the FY 2013 Arts Tour Minnesota program. These Arts Board grants, totalling $1,584,492, support Minnesota touring artists and arts organizations to present concerts, theater, dance, puppetry, readings, and workshops to new Minnesota communities, and support Minnesota organizations to host diverse touring artists. The grants are estimated to serve 80,000 community members.

Arts Tour Minnesota grants are funded by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature to the Minnesota State Arts Board from the State's arts and cultural heritage fund. The Arts Tour Minnesota grant program ensures that more Minnesotans and communities access art by diverse local, national, and international artists.

Some of the activities supported by FY 2013 Arts Tour Minnesota grants include: Minnesota State University-Mankato hosting seventeen regional and national writers for the 2013-2014 Good Thunder Reading Series; the Minnesota Opera presenting Puccini's _La bohème_ in Faribault; the vocal ensemble Cantus performing in Bemidji, Glenwood, and Wadena; Shapiro and Smith Dance bringing their acclaimed work about the 1894 Hinckley fire to Hinckley and Grand Marais; and the History Theatre touring _Beyond the Rainbow: Garland at Carnegie Hall_ to Grand Rapids, Detroit Lakes, and Dawson.
