In football terminology, a ‘pick six’ is a quick abbreviation for interception-returned-for-a-TD. For the Rushford-Peterson Trojans, it ended being up the rally cry after their contest with Fillmore Central. It was a ‘pick-six’ that clinched

Most expected the Chatfield Gophers to have a good season on the 2012 gridiron. Goodness accomplished. Sporting a 6-1 record and a #10 ranking in Class AA heading into Week 8, Chatfield’s sole blemish was a 6-0 loss to #1 Caledonia. Rushford-Peterson, on the other hand, was a bit of an unknown in August. But a mixed group of talented young players, and rugged experience ones, allowed R-P to deliver its fans a 5-2 2012 campaign heading into Week 8. With the two (competitive) losses coming to Caledonia and #7 Lewiston-Altura (both undefeated), the Trojans procured a few votes in the Class A state rankings; ditto on the goodness. Thus, the 3-Rivers South season ended with a pair of its powers doing battle.
R-P special teams fired the first shot. Cole Kingsley returned the opening kickoff 56 yards. On R-P’s first offensive play, the Trojan gun misfired. A reverse went awry (fumble). Jake Neis got the recovery, starting the Goph’s first drive. He ended it with a 13-yard TD run (7-0). R-P was quick to answer. On the ensuing kickoff, the ball was initially bobbled. Casey McLellan then grabbed it, and had a good handle for 78 yards, to paydirt (7-7).
The Gophers answered on their next possession. A bit of misdirection was the finisher. Six-foot three, 210-pound tight end Jayme LaPlante took the ball on a end-around and used his big-man wheels to score from 17-yards away. The 1st quarter was a bit of a track meet with Chatfield leading 14-7. The second quarter was not. At the half, Chatfield still led 14-7. In the 3rd quarter, the teams exchanged interceptions. R-P senior LB Dalton Bellock tooketh from Chatfield. Gopher junior LB Dalton Schwier then tooketh back from R-P. Schwier’s 41-yard return set the Goph’s up nicely. Justin Viss capped things with a 3-yard run (21-7). Nate Skare kicked a 27-yard field goal late in the 3rd quarter (24-7). Skare drove the final nail with a 4-yard TD run (30-7) with just under 4:00 to play. The Trojans got a final score from Zach Boehmke, a 22-yard run (set up by a Steve Adcock 58-yard KOR). Via a 30-14 final, Chatfield downed R-P.
Speedy and elusive Neis was the workhorse (26 carries, 145 yards, TD #11 on the year). Gopher ‘D’ did the rest, holding R-P to 26 yards of total offense in the 1st half, 150 for the game (five 1st downs). The only Trojan immune to maroon and white was Boehmke. R-P’s multi-versed senior tailback had 15 carries, fo .....

When two undefeated, state ranked teams meet amidst a high school football season, it’s a hyped event. The match-up of #9 in Class AA Chatfield (5-0) versus the #1 defending state champion Caledonia (5-0) certainly was the game of

On September 9, R-P and FC met for a 3-Rivers volleyball contest. The Falcons beat the Trojans 25-18, 25-21, and 25-16. R-P is better than that loss. FC is darn good. All that made the LeRoy-Ostrander Tournament, where both schools were participant

It might be a year before Fillmore Central volleyball truly reaches its peak. They might not finish first in the conference this year (see #1 in Class A Wabasha-Kellogg), or second (See #7 in AA Caledonia). But if one is to contend W-K and Caledonia

It’s been awhile. It’s been a long while, since a Chatfield Gopher football team has played Plainview-Elgin-Millville and walked away having slapped the Bulldogs with a big ole “L.” It was 2000 to be exact, when Gopher coaching great Ken Jac
