The Fillmore Central girls began the year with 7 wins in 9 tries. Their two losses came at the hands of conference leading Caledonia, and to Kingsland by 1 in overtime. Then the week of January 11th came. The Falcons lost three straight to (then) 9-2 Southland, (then) 13-1, 5th ranked (Class 1A) Spring Grove, and 7-6 Chatfield. In a re-match with 10-6 Kingsland, the girls needed a victory. For the first half, it wasn't an offensive bonanza; the score was 15-12 at the intermission. Things picked up offensively in the second. The Falcons got what was lacking, particularly in losses to Chatfield and Spring Grove: scoring from more than two sources. Connor Nagle got hers, netting 15. Alex Peterson, FC's second leading scorer, only netted 3, but Brooke Ruesink had 12 and Nashia Soland 11. More notably, the Falcons checked 18.1-point/game-scorer Molly Greiner. After scoring 32 in the first match-up, she was held to just 13 (8 rebounds). The Falcons prevailed 49-34. Kingsland head coach Del Bicknese remarked, "We came out flat and you can't do that against good teams."
