Clifford L. Peterson

Clifford L. Peterson, 83, of Preston, a retired boiler engineer, died April 1, 2003 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Born Aug. 12, 1919, in Waukokee Township, Fillmore County, the son of Henry A. and Cora Amanda (Nelson) Peterson. He attended a Waukokee country school and then worked on the family farm. On April 16, 1944, he married Mae Anstett in Preston. They lived on the farm until moving into Preston in 1961. A licensed boiler engineer, he worked in that capacity for the Preston Creamery for 10 years, for the Spring Valley Creamery for nine years, at Rochester State Hospital from 1978 to 1985, and then for the Preston-Fountain school district until 1992. From 1992 until last year, he mowed grass at cemeteries. Mr. Peterson was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Janice Peterson of Trempealeau, Wis., Karen (Dean) Aarre of Stockton, Barbara Hampel of St. Charles, and Christine Olson and Susan (Blaise) Hager, both of Preston; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Florence Foss of Preston.

The funeral was April 5, 2003 at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston, with the Revs. James Rushton and Jennifer Graf officiating. The body will be cremated. Interment will be at a later date. Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston was in charge of arrangements.
