Mabel Johnson

Mabel Johnson, age 98, of Winona, died Jan. 8, 2003 at Saint Anne Extended Health Care, Winona.

Mabel was born on Aug. 2, 1904 in Arendahl Township, Fillmore County, MN to Hans and Mary (Johnson) Torgerson. She graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1921 and then attended Teacher's Training at Red Wing Seminary, Red Wing, MN and graduated in 1922. She also attended several summer sessions at Winona State University. On Sept. 2, 1939, she married James E. Johnson at the Lutheran Parsonage in Peterson, MN. He died on March 30, 1972. Mabel taught in rural schools of Fillmore, Houston, Ottertail and Kanabec Counties. She last taught in Kanabec County and retired from teaching in 1963. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Winona and a member of its Ladies Bible Class.

Survivors include nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, six sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services were Jan. 12, 2003 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Winona with Rev. William Flesh, officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona. Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona was in charge or arrangements.
