Orvin H. Halverson, 82, of Mabel, died July 10, 2004 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, Iowa.

Born March 7, 1922, in Preble Township, Fillmore County to Andrew and Cora (Stensgard) Halverson. He attended Rooster Valley School and as a child attended Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson and South Fork Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove. On Sept. 25, 1948, he married Evelyn J. Bjerke at Highland Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove. They lived in Mabel for a year while he worked for Arlen Falck and then moved to Spring Grove Township, Houston County, where he managed Wold Sundown Valley Farms for 49 years. They returned to Mabel in 2000. Mr. Halverson was a member of Highland Lutheran Church and was a former member of the church council.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Merlin (Barb), Arlen (Genette) and Gary (Rhonda Lyon), all of Mabel, and Greg (Deanna) of Waukon, Iowa; two daughters, Sharon (Charles) Ehler of Calmar, Iowa, and Audrey (Donald) Anderson of Mabel; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; three brothers, LuWayne of Spring Grove, and Rueben and Allan, both of La Crescent; and three sisters, Caroline Gunderson, Norma (Melbourne) Dahler and Cecelia (Carty) Vesterse, all of Spring Grove. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a sister and two brothers.

The funeral for Orvin H. Halverson was July 14 at Highland Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove, with the Rev. David Andreae officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel was in charge of arrangements.
