Rebecca Adah Alexander

Rebecca Adah Alexander, 88, of Spring Valley and formerly of Preston, died Feb. 21, 2003 at Spring Valley Care Center.

Rebecca Adah Brabau was born July 6, 1914, in Forestville Township in Fillmore County. She received her elementary education at Forestville Center and Wykoff High School. She then worked one year and graduated from Preston Normal Training Department in 1932. She taught in a one-room school for nine years.

She married Kenneth Alexander on Aug. 17, 1937, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed in the Greenleafton area for 37 years. She returned to college at Winona State University and graduated in 1970. She taught in Preston public schools for 14 years. When not at school, she enjoyed homemaking, gardening and flowers. She served as a 4-H leader and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Friends In Council and the Root River Church of Brethren, transferring to Preston United Methodist Church after moving to Preston in 1974.

She is survived by a son, Klaren (Helen) Alexander of Atlanta; a daughter, Barbara (William) Storey of Nederland, Texas; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise (Nordahl) Hendrickson of Spring Valley.

The funeral for Rebecca Adah Alexander was Feb. 25, 2003 at Preston United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carolyn Westlake officiating. Burial was in Prairie Queen Cemetery in rural Preston. Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston was in charge of arrangements.
